The purpose of this page is to feature historic churches located in our conference. JOE HARRINGTON (Left) AND BOB COUCH (Right)
Dr. Robert Couch, a member of the Commission on Archives and History, and his partner, Mr. Joe Harrington, are sharing pictures and histories of historic wooden church buildings in our conference area. Read the article Rev. Ed Shirley wrote about their passion to preserve An Enduring Spiritual Legacy with historic church photographs. Currently we are featuring the Marion Junction UMC. You can also read about the Calvert Church, the Oak Bowery Church and the Sardis Church which we featured earlier.
REV. ED SHIRLEY Vice-Chairman, Commission on Archives and History.
Also we have archived the churches Rev. Ed Shirley included in the video he created titled "The Lord's Lighthouses." The video is a tour of twelve churches with expert commentary on their architecture by Bob Gamble who works with the Alabama Historical Commission. The video contains humorous and inspirational stories from church members and a lot of fascinating Methodist and state history.
